Date and Time

Wednesday, September 16th 8:30 am – 10:00 am

Luke Elser, Northern WV Brownfields Assistance Center

Mark Miller, City Planner – City of Fairmont
Donna Martino, WV Housing and Development Fund

This session will discuss the BAD Buildings Model, a community-driven model of abandoned/dilapidated building redevelopment through information-gathering, municipal partnerships, local policy improvement, and reuse planning. The session will feature the Fairmont BAD Buildings Team, formed in 2014, and highlight the Team’s efforts, successes, challenges, lessons learned, and accomplishments over the past 18 months. The session will also spotlight the WV Housing Development Fund’s new Property Rescue Initiative. Created by the 2015 WV Legislature, the PRI is designed to give cities, counties, and communities the ability to acquire properties and conduct demolition, deconstruction, and rehabilitation in order to remove blight and promote reuse and revitalization of problem properties.
