Call for Presentations – 2014 WV Brownfields Conference

The West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Centers are currently seeking presentation proposals to fill limited slots for the 2014 WV Brownfields Conference in Huntington, WV on September 11-12

Example presentation topics include: 

  • Finance and funding mechanisms
  • Liability and risk mitigation
  • Site redevelopment strategies
  • Other redevelopment related ideas, case studies, and best practices.

The WV Brownfields Conference anticipates presentation formats to include expert panels, interactive workshops, and technical training. 

To submit your presentation proposal, download this proposal form, enter your information, save it, and email to carico@marshall.edu by March 3, 2014.  Scanned copies are also acceptable.

FY14 Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grant Guidelines

This notice announces the availability of funds and solicits proposals from eligible entities, including nonprofit organizations, to deliver environmental workforce development and job training programs that recruit, train, and place local, unemployed and under-employed residents with the skills needed to secure full-time employment in the environmental field, with a focus on solid and hazardous waste remediation, environmental health and safety, and wastewater-related training.

On November 22, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the FY14 guidelines for EPA Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (ARC) Grants.  The EPA will host two webinars for this years Brownfields Grant applicants.  For more information on the application process, visit the EPA Brownfields application website.

Dec. 4th Webinar on Writing Successful Brownfields Grants

The National Association of Local Government Environmnetal Professionals (NALGEP), the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR), and the KSU Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities Program hosted a webinar for FY2014 EPA Brownfields grant applicants on December 4 at 2:00 pm Eastern time.  The webinar, titled “Tips for Successful Brownfields Grant Proposals” provided information on how applicants can create better applications and provide basic, but often overlooked, advice.  Speakers included:

  • Ken Brown, NALGEP
  • Ignacio Dayrit,  CCLR
  • Mickey Hartnett, Envirofields and KSU Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program
