Description In this session, participants will learn about the federal Section 106 review process and how to navigate their respective projects through it. The presenters will briefly introduce the history and background of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Thereafter, they will focus on the Section 106 process, how it relates to the National Register of Historic Places, and what information should be submitted to the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office to initiate a project review. Finally, participants will examine case studies to learn how WVSHPO staff review submissions. These examples will help consultants, applicants, and agency officials understand what to look for and mention in reports to ensure a timely evaluation.
