1:30 pm – 2:45 pm

Description

As many as 1/16 properties in West Virginia are vacant or abandoned. At the same time, neglected properties represent an opportunity for community revitalization. Attorneys will highlight ordinances being used to effectively address dilapidated properties such as the building code and vacant property registries as well as legal strategies available if an owner fails to comply. The presentation will follow the publication From Liability to Viability: A Legal Toolkit to Address Neglected Properties in West Virginia, available at wvleap.wvu.edu. Time will be reserved for any questions from the toolkit including tax lien sales, title examinations and the use of eminent domain as well as legislative updates.
