Fishing
Meet in Hotel Lobby at 5:30 PM with Fishing Gear and License
Participants will enjoy an evening of angling in the Morgantown area with a certified fish tale spinner. We’ll catch fish by a variety of means: spinners, soft plastics, bobbers, and flies. ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME…novice liars are encouraged to participate! Bring your own gear or borrow one of our poles. Make sure you’re properly licensed prior to the conference. The WVDNR offers day passes for a small fee.

Bird Watching
Meet at Conference Registration Table at 6:00 AM with Binoculars
September is the time of fall migration for breeding birds that are returning to their wintering grounds in Central and South America. The Morgantown area has a few migrant trap locations where birds frequently stopover to rest and refuel during their migration, and the early bird gets the worm. We plan to visit a 2-3 of these migrant traps to see what birds are in the area, and discuss their natural history. It’s a great way to get your day started before learning about brownfields.

Bird Banding Demonstration
Meet in Hotel Lobby at 5:00 PM with Headlamp (Optional)
One of the best ways to study bird populations for avian conservation is via mark-recapture techniques, aka bird banding. Come see a Master Bander demonstrate general bird banding techniques. This quest will attempt to capture diurnal passerines and nocturnal owls with an opportunity to get to know their physiology and natural history in an up close manner.

Young Professionals Hangout
Meet at Conference Registration Table at 7:45 PM
Are you ready for some laughs? Join other young professionals in the field for Stand Up Comedy Open Mic at 123 Pleasant Street! Whether you test out your brownfield jokes on stage or just want to experience the Morgantown vibe, this Side Quest is for you. The venue is within walking distance with the event beginning at 8:00 PM. Simply fill out the sign-up sheet, and we will reserve your ticket.
