Assistance Programs and Departments

Downtown Appalachia

We see tremendous opportunities if you are working to transform vacant, decaying, and/or underutilized properties into thriving business centers, mixed-use retail and housing complexes, community facilities, and other cultural assets.

NBAC Assessment Fund

The NBAC community-wide assessment program is focused on attracting new business, lodging, and recreational opportunities to West Virginia’s rural riverfront main streets through the redevelopment of industrial legacy sites.

WVU BAD Buildings

This program helps communities address barriers to identifying, prioritizing, and redeveloping BAD (Brownfields, Abandoned, Dilapidated) buildings.

ACT Now

ACT Now (Appalachian Climate Technology) seeks to rebuild the economy in southern West Virginia by bringing new, sustainable jobs to the area.

BR2

The Building Removal and Renovation (BR2) Initiative seeks to identify and rank abandoned, unused, and dilapidated non-residential structures in a 17-county target area and prepare selected structures and associated properties for rehabilitation or demolition.

Individual Project Support

The West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Centers also provide individual project support to any community in the state.

EPA Brownfields Grant Assistance

Each year, we provide virtual and in-person grant trainings to prepare applicants to submit competitive proposals for brownfield assessment, cleanup, and planning funding.
