BROOKE COUNTY, W. Va. — The former Brooke Glass Factory in Wellsburg has been idle for some time now. The business development corporation has been working to use that site for economic development, but first, its rich history is being captured. The Brooke Glass Factory was once constantly producing glassware and did it for over one-hundred years, that era has shattered and a new purpose for the site is on the way. But first the property’s rich history is being preserved. “It’s nice to have this event to call attention to Brooke Glass and all the glassware that they used to make and to the people who were the history of Brooke Glass,” said Wellsburg Mayor Sue Simonetti. Saturday was the first ‘Brooke Glass Pickers’ event. Community members checked out artifacts, helped paint a mural and even got a look inside with a tour. It was a day to not only celebrate the factory’s history, but also to embrace what’s to come in the future.
